Miami Ranked Among Worst Traffic in U.S., World: Study

When it comes to traffic congestion, Miami is among the worst in the nation – and in the world.

Miami was the fifth most congested city in U.S. in 2016, according to a new study released by INRIX, the world’s leader in transportation analytics. Miami also parked in the final spot company’s top “10 most congested cities in the world” list.

Based on the study, Miamians spend an average of 65 hours per year stuck in traffic, compared to L.A.’s 104 hours, which topped the worldwide list.

“A stable U.S. economy, continued urbanization of major cities, and factors such as employment growth and low gas prices have all contributed to increased traffic in 2016,” said senior INRIX economist Bob Pishue.

The U.S. accounted for more than half of the top 25 cities worldwide with the worst traffic congestion in 2016 and is the most congested developed country on the planet.

The list was calculated by the percentage of time drivers spent in congestion during different times and ranked cities by the peak hours that the average driver spent in congestion.
