Miami Resident Launches Petition Urging NFL to Have Pitbull Perform at Super Bowl Halftime Next Year

What to Know

  • A Change.org petition has been created asking the NFL to have international music star and Miami native Pitbull perform at the 2020 game.

With Super Bowl LIV taking over South Florida in less than one calendar year, one Miami resident wants the halftime show inside Hard Rock Stadium to have a certain 305 feel.

A Change.org petition has been created asking the National Football League to have international music star and Miami native Pitbull perform during the February 2, 2020 event.

“Pitbull is Mr. 305 and Mr. Worldwide. Pitbull needs to do the halftime show for Super Bowl 54 in Miami,” creator J.P. Gutierrez wrote on the website.

As of Thursday morning, over 900 people have signed the petition urging “Mr. 305” to be the main attraction when the Miami Gardens stadium host the league’s premiere event for the first time in a decade.

Pitbull (also known by his real name of Armando Perez) has become the unofficial ambassador for South Florida, including lending his voice to the official hype video for the Super Bowl Host Committee that was released on Monday by officials during the handoff to Miami following Super Bowl LIII.

In this past Sunday’s game, Atlanta native and rap star Big Boi was one of the acts for the game played in his hometown. Miami has had local flavor before in halftime shows during Super Bowl games played in the city, including mega star and South Florida native Gloria Estefan being one of the headliners during Super Bowl XXXIII in January 1999.

During the last Super Bowl to be played in South Florida, international rock icons The Who were the headliners during Super Bowl XLIV in February 2010.
