Miami Suspect Arrested on Separate Sexual Battery, Video Voyeurism Charges

Joanka Ortiz was arrested earlier this year for allegedly putting a phone under a woman's skirt

A 21-year-old Miami man was arrested twice this year in separate incidents related to allegations of sexual battery and video voyeurism, according to police.

Joanka Ortiz was arrested in connection to a sexual assault allegation that occurred Jan. 8 at Black Point Park and Marina. He was also arrested March 17 on video voyeurism charges at a south Miami-Dade Pet Supermarket.

In the Jan. 8 incident, an arrest report said a female victim met Ortiz on a dating website and agreed to meet in person. Ortiz picked her up and drove to a Miami-Dade County park, according to the report.

The victim told police she and the suspect stopped at a pavilion while taking a walk. The suspect then forced the victim to have intercourse, according to the report. She then pushed the suspect off her and asked to go home.

On Thursday, the suspect confessed to the Jan. 8 incident and was taken to jail, according to the report.

In the March 17 incident, a victim said the suspect, who worked at a Cutler Bay Pet Supermarket, was helping her at the store. She asked him about a dog product and he asked her to read the ingredients.

"When the victim leaned in to read the ingredients, she advised the arrestee got closer to her at which point she looked back at him and noticed the arrestee had his cellular phone underneath her skirt," the arrest report reads.

The victim backed away, called the police and the suspect was arrested.

"We recently learned of an incident involving a former employee, about which we are deeply disturbed," Pet Supermarket said in a statement Friday. "The person in question has not been an employee of Pet Supermarket since March 2019. As a company policy, we cannot comment further."
