South Florida Bracing for Travelers During Thanksgiving Holiday

What to Know

  • A combined 2.3 million travelers are expected to fly in and out of South Florida airports this holiday week.

From roadways to airports, South Florida is expected to be crowded with those both coming and going over the Thanksgiving holiday and into the weekend.

A combined 2.3 million travelers are expected to fly in and out of South Florida airports this holiday week, along with the 49 million people expected to be on the road. With so many people rushing to get a seat at their Thanksgiving dinner table, some planning is needed.

Luckily, officials at Miami International and Hollywood International Airport have some tips to make your trip as smooth as possible.

Both airports remind passengers to arrive two hours before their domestic flights, and three hours before international flights. Online check-ins are encouraged, and by using the official airport apps, passengers can get real-time flight updates.

For those who are putting the pedal to the metal, the American Automobile Association suggests avoiding roads Wednesday afternoon and early evening. As well as the Sunday after Thanksgiving if possible.
