Mom Hid Drugs in Baby Formula Container: BSO

A South Florida mother is facing a child neglect charge after authorities say she hid drugs inside her baby's formula.

Tamisha Marie Burnell, 21, was arrested Sunday night after deputies performed a welfare check on her 10-month-old child at a Deerfield Beach hotel, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Erik Sanchez, 21, was also arrested for child neglect, as well as a several drug possession charges, authorities said. Both remained behind bars Monday, and it was unknown if they've hired attorneys.

According to the arrest reports, deputies went to the La Quinta Inn & Suites on Southwest 12th Avenue, where they found the child in a room where drugs were being smoked and were exposed on counter tops.

Someone had been smoking marijuana in the room and a bong and bullet were found on the counter, the reports said.

Deputies also found a container marked "Enfamil" infant formula that field tested for crack cocaine and heroin, the reports said.

Burnell and Sanchez were taken into custody and child protective services took the baby.
