Mom Seeks Driver After Teen on Scooter Struck in Fort Lauderdale

Police and family members are hoping the public can help them find a driver who fled the scene after hitting a teen on a scooter in Fort Lauderdale earlier this month.

Alexis Gutierrez, 14, was riding an electric scooter in the 600 block of North Federal Highway just before 4 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he was struck by a car.

The driver fled the scene without helping the teen, who remained hospitalized in serious condition Tuesday, police said at a news conference with the teen's mother.

Police said the driver was described as a white woman with short, curly brown hair. She was driving a maroon, 4-door sedan, possibly an Acura, that would have visible damage to the front end and windshield.

"We're hopeful that someone saw something," Fort Lauderdale Police Maj. Frank Sousa said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
