  • The Monroe County Sheriff's Office employee denied the accusations.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said a deputy assigned to the Stock Island jail was arrested for allegedly slapping his ex-girlfriend.

Jatavi Wendall Lee, 34, was arrested on Friday in Miami Gardens and charged with misdemeanor battery and theft. An internal affairs investigation has been opened into the incident.

The Miami Gardens Police Department said Lee was picking up a child he has with his ex-girlfriend from daycare.

"The former couple ran into one another. The victim was with her present boyfriend. Lee became upset and slapped the woman on the face," the MCSO said in a statement, citing Miami Gardens police.

Lee, who was hired in February 2017, allegedly then followed his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend to a gas station "where he removed her license plate from her vehicle and threatened to shoot both of them," MCSO wrote.

Lee admitted to police that he argued with his ex-girlfriend and that he removed the license plate, stating it belonged to him, but denied that he hit his ex-girlfriend or that he threatened to shoot anyone, according to MCSO.
