Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy Injured After Morning Crash Near Sugarloaf Key

A Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputy is recovering in the hospital after being injured during a crash near Sugarloaf Key.

MCSO investigators along with the Florida Highway Patrol say 34-year-old Deputy David Brummer was riding his motorcycle southbound near mile marker 16 around 8:15 a.m. Monday when it was struck by a tour bus that was behind Brummer.

The 12-year department veteran was airlifted to Jackson South Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition with injuries that appeared to not be life threatening.

The driver of the van, 76-year-old Noelle Plagens of Key West, was cited in the crash. No other injuries were reported and the roadway reopened around 30 minutes after the crash.

Brummer previously worked as a police officer in New Jersey and later as a FHP trooper before joining the MCSO in 2007.
