Mother Demands Justice After Son Killed By Police Officer in Miami Gardens

A South Florida mother gave an emotional plea Monday, demanding justice, one year after her son was fatally shot by Miami Gardens Police.

Dash camera video shows Officer Eddo Trimino, firing the shots that killed 25-year-old Lavall Hall.

His own mother had called 911 that morning in February of 2015, looking for help. She said her son was recently in a mental hospital and had "snapped."

"If I would've known it would've happened like that, I never would've called them," Catherine Daniels said. Sitting with her attorney and the NAACP, she pushed for answers and for change.

The State Attorney's Office ruled the shooting was justified. The final report shows Hall was armed with a broom at the time, attacked the officer with it, and lunged at the him. That's when the fatal shots were fired.

"Feel my pain, my pain and my suffering. It's been a whole year and the way he got off, it's not right," Daniels said.

The family has since filed a multi-million dollar wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Miami Gardens and the police department. They want all officers to be trained in dealing with, and responding to calls about, the mentally ill.

"I called them for help and look, it caused my child to be dead," Daniels expressed.

The attorney has now asked the Department of Justice and the FBI to review the case.

It's unclear whether the department has made any changes to its training program. NBC 6 showed up, called and even tweeted the department, but has not heard back.
