Diana Louissant was an aspiring singer, a young woman who wrote poetry and worked as a backup singer while she studied in college to become a health worker.
Friday at Miami Police headquarters her mother tearfully begged for help.
“This sweet girl. Please, please I ask you all for help,” Marie Aubin said. “Help me find Diana’s killer.”
Thursday evening, a black man rode up on a silver bicycle to the maroon Chevy SUV Louissant was sitting in at 5954 NE 5th Ave. and opened fire indiscriminately on her and two men inside the vehicle, police said. The 21-year-old woman was hit twice, killing her.
“This young girl, she does not deserve that at all, for nothing,” her mother said. “I lost my loved one. I’m sorry. I can’t speak. That’s a big love, my 21 years.”
Police initially said that Louissant wasn’t the target, but based on the evidence they have now gathered, they do believe that she was the intended target, they said.
The shooting could be related to a case last month when someone robbed her. As Louissant and her friends drove along in the SUV Thursday, she may have recognized her robber riding a bike, and they stopped briefly to confront him, Sgt. Confessor Gonzalez said.
The man who rode up on a bike in the driveway and started shooting soon after may have been the same guy.

Aubin pleaded, “Brothers, sisters, mom, dad, aunt, uncle, please help this mama out. Please, I ask you all for the help. God bless,” she said, crying.
Police say they are looking for a slim young black man who is between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, who keeps his hair cropped close in cornrows or a tight, short Afro. He was in a camo jacket and jean shorts on a silver bicycle Thursday night, they said.
They ask anyone with information on the case to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
