Monday marks the beginning of a five-year $245 million mass widening project across Florida's Turnpike, according to Florida Department of Transportation.
The project will take place along Florida's Turnpike Extension, from the Dolphin Expressway to Northwest 106th Street.
Officials say the following improvements will take place in that time:
- The turnpike will expand to 10 lanes between the Dolphin Expressway and Flagler Station Boulevard.
- Turnpike bridges over Northwest 12th Street, Northwest 25th Street, Northwest 41st Street, Northwest 58th Street and Northwest 74th Street Canal will be widened.
- Northwest 117th Avenue will be converted into a northbound Turnpike entrance ramp, between NW 34th Street and 41st Street, as well as a slip ramp for local traffic continuing on Northwest 117th Avenue.
- Three new ramps will be added to the Dolphin Expressway and Northwest 12th Street.
- Improvements will be made to intersections at Northwest 12th Street, Northwest 41st Street and Northwest 74th Street.
- Sound walls will be constructed for qualified residential areas adjacent to the Turnpike.
