Dasha Brown is about to send her daughter Daqueshia off to college, so she's saving money anywhere she can.
Brown was at the Citgo on Biscayne Boulevard just outside Miami Shores (107th and Biscayne Boulevard), which is offering a discount -- five cents off every gallon of gas if you pay cash.
"We are trying to reward them for paying cash," said Citgo station owner
Sandra Pena, "and not having to impose the credit charges to them."
With gas eating up more of a family's budget, most are looking for any way to cut fuel expenses.
"I will walk rather than take a half mile drive to the gym,"
Dave Baker said.
In addition to the aforementioned Citgo, the BP on 167th Street near Miami Avenue in North Miami Dade also offers the nickel-for-cash promotion.
When you purchase $50 or more in grocery items at Winn-Dixie, they'll give you a discount of 5 to 15 cents a gallon at Shell stations that participate in the promotion.
We also found Valero gas offering coupons. The station near the new Marlins stadium -- 1705 NW 7th Street -- raffles off 25 bucks of free gas every Saturday for customers who buy during the week.
