New Details Released in Fatal Shooting at South Beach Condo

Police are releasing new details in the fatal shooting of a man at a South Beach condominium last week.

It’s now confirmed by Miami Beach Police that 40-year-old Richard Petik is the victim of the brutal murder at the Flamingo Miami Beach at 1500 Bay Drive.

The reason behind the shooting is unclear, but Petik's godmother told NBC 6 in a phone interview that a possible theory is a love triangle involving a woman and her doctor husband who lives at the building.

"I have heard it’s a doctor," Irene Erhardt said from New York.

She went on to say she can't believe a doctor, no matter what the circumstances are, could do such a thing.

"The amount of schooling that they go through and what they have to do after school, it's years and years of hard work," she said. "Why would a doctor give all that up just for jealously or hatred towards someone that is the ex of your girl."

Miami Beach Police have not confirmed Petik's murder was the result of a love triangle. Nor would they confirm who the man is that was taken away in handcuffs immediately after the crime happened on Friday.

The man has since been let go pending the investigation.

Erhardt said Petik was a former member of the military but was disabled. She said he will be remembered as a man who always treated others with respect.

"Very caring, very loving, polite. Just very polite," she said.
