In a show of support for the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, an array of local artists and bands – including New Found Glory – will perform during a benefit concert in South Florida in May.
The money raised during the concert will be donated to the Broward Education Foundation Stoneman Douglas Fund, a fund that distributes financial support to families of the victims. The performance is scheduled for May 16 at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater.
Headlining act New Found Glory was founded in Coral Springs in the late 1990s. According to a statement from the group, half of the pop-punk band’s members went to school at Stoneman Douglas.
“While we feel there are no words that we can say or do to fix this in any way, we wish to let you know that our hearts are heavy with the pain that this event has caused to so many,” the group said. “We want to stress that the most important part of the grieving process is to focus on the healing of those affected by this senseless act.”
Along with New Found Glory, Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional and Ryan Key, former member of Yellowcard, will also be performing. Both artists also have roots in the Sunshine State.
The concert is being held by AEG Presents, Entercom Radio Group and the City of Pompano Beach, according to a statement.
