If the early bird catches the worm, what does the night owl catch?

Some Night Owl Cookies, perhaps?

Night Owl Cookies – an all-night sweet shop that serves decadent, homemade cookies in unique varieties and flavors – just moved to a new location in Miami, a spokeperson said. A grand opening party for the new store is set for Thursday, June 28 at 7 p.m.

The idea of an all-night cookie shop in South Florida – helmed by 26-year-old Andrew Gonzalez – came to fruition in 2012. Gonzalez said he saw a similar concept for a cookie shop in New York, and thought: “Why don’t we have this in Miami?”

Gonzalez then became a “Cookiepreneur,” creating one-of-a-kind cookies loaded with everything from Nutella, to brownie batter, to beloved cereals like Fruity Pebbles and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. There are also cookies with a Latin flair, such as the “Ave Maria.” The defining characteristic? Guava cookie dough mixed with crunchy Maria cookies and white chocolate chips.

Another popular cookie is the "Plantain Papi Cookie," which features plantain-infused cookie dough, Nutella and a slice of maduro.

The new store – located on 10534 SW 8th St. in Miami – will have 1,100 square-feet of seating and 950 square-feet of production space, a spokesperson said. There are 14 flavors of cookies currently available, but Gonzalez said there are 50 different flavors he rotates each month.

The store opens at 2 p.m. and closes at 2 a.m., leaving plenty of time for late-night munchers to grab a sugary snack. Each cookie costs $2.50 or $2.75 dollars, depending on the type, and weighs about four and a half to five ounces, Gonzalez said.

The shop is situated close to Florida International University, making it a go-to spot for hungry students pulling all-nighters.

In addition to its signature cookies, the new shop will have soft-serve ice cream that can be mixed per order with any cookie flavor.

Gonzalez, who was 20 years old when Night Owl Cookies was created, was born in Miami and has Cuban roots. The young entrepreneur has been featured in Forbes 30 Under 30, Forbes Nations Top Young Chef, and Best Bite on the Beach at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival. The company will also participate in the 2018 New York City Wine and Food Festival, according to the release.

Plans are currently underway to open three new Night Owl Cookies' storefronts, but it is currently unknown where those will be.
