No Bond for Suspect in Hollywood Sex Assault

Freddie Lee Gardner Jr., 24, is charged with two counts of sexual battery and one count of kidnapping in the alleged attack on a 17-year-old girl.

The suspect in the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl in Hollywood was ordered held without bond during his first court appearance Friday.

Freddie Lee Gardner Jr., 24, is charged with two counts of sexual battery and one count of kidnapping in the alleged attack that happened in an alleyway in the 2700 block of Pierce Street.

The victim was taken to the Sexual Assault Treatment Center.

Gardner Jr. was arrested Thursday after detectives received anonymous tips from residents about the identity and location of the perpetrator in the case, police said. He was found at his grandfather's Hollywood home, according to officials.

It's unknown whether he has an attorney.

Authorities said Gardner approached the girl after she got off the bus and asked for directions. He then forced her into his van, threatening her life if she didn't get in.

Gardner had allegedly been watching the girl. He knew what school she went to and where she lives, according to an arrest affidavit.

A judge ordered Gardner not to have contact with the girl if he makes bond.

Police believe this may not have been the first time Gardner committed this type of crime.

"We don't think that these individuals unfortunately act as a one time occurrence, so we're concerned there are other victims on the street that may not have come forward," said Hollywood Police Chief Frank Fernandez.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
