A North Florida man has been arrested after authorities say he left three dogs in a hot car to die in Escambia County.

According to Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons, a woman left her three dogs under the care of her father, Felton Charles Henderson, 72, while she went out of town for a few days.

“She left water, she left food, everything that would be needed to take care of these dogs,” Sheriff Simmons stated in a Facebook press conference.

When the woman returned from her trip, she went to retrieve the dogs from her father and was led to the car.

“It is apparent that all he did was lock these dogs in today’s heat, yesterday’s heat, the day before yesterday’s heat,” said Sheriff Simmons. “He put these dogs in his blue Toyota Camry knowing full well they would not survive.”

All three dogs died from the heat after being locked in the car for three days.

Authorities did not give any motive for why Henderson would have left the dogs in the vehicle.
