North Florida Prison Guard Charged With Violating Inmate's Rights

A Florida prison guard accused of assaulting an inmate has been charged with violating the inmate's rights.

Court records show that 49-year-old Michael Baxter was arraigned in a Panama City federal courtroom Wednesday on charges of falsifying records and depriving an inmate of his constitutional rights. A trial is scheduled for Dec. 4.

An indictment says Baxter was working at the Apalachee Correctional Institution in July 2015 when he assaulted an inmate, causing bodily injury. Authorities say Baxter then falsified an incident report, claiming that the inmate had attacked him.

The indictment didn't list an attorney for Baxter.
