Half Brothers Shot in North Miami Beach: Police

Police in North Miami Beach are investigating after a double shooting involving half-brothers that killed one and left the other injured.

Around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, police received several calls about shots fired in Northeast Miami-Dade in the 1300 block of Northeast 175th Street.

According to family members, half-brothers Chris Jonathas, 25, and Wilson Boue Jr., 29, were in the house playing video games when two to three people walked up to a window and opened fire.

"There are no words to explain someone just walking up to somebody's window and start shooting from the shadow. That's a monster," said the victims' aunt.

Jonathas was pronounced dead at the scene. Boue was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds to the hand. His family said he is in stable condition.

Both of the men had just recently moved back to South Florida after finishing school. Jonathas was a recent graduate from Arkansas Baptist College with a degree in Business Administration. He planned to apply to graduate school at the University of Miami.

Boue had just finished EMT school in Gainesville, and wants to become a firefighter.

The family said Jonathas had just gone to pick Wilson up from his home in preparation for a job interview he was scheduled to have on Wednesday.

The two stopped by their cousin's house, the scene of the murder. Relatives told NBC 6 they do not believe the men were the intended targets.

"My son has become a statistic," said their mother, Esmae Dugue. "In the wrong place at the wrong time."

No further details have been released about a possible motive or a description of the suspects, but police said the shooting may have a gang connection.

"We are examining recent shootings that happened in north Dade County over the last week, two weeks, and we're trying to make connections there. We feel strong that some of those shootings were gang-related, and this could possibly go down that line as well," said Major Kathy Katerman with NMBPD.

An investigation is ongoing.
