A suspended South Florida police officer faces misdemeanor charges after a video showed him knocking a smartphone out of a disabled veteran's hand while arguing about a handicapped-accessible parking spot.
Prosecutors confirmed Tuesday that Riviera Beach police Sgt. Garry Wilson will be arraigned Dec. 2 on battery and criminal mischief charges. The Palm Beach Post reports Wilson was placed on leave in August after the videotaped argument with disabled veteran Isiah James.
In the video, Wilson tells James he isn't disabled and has no right to park in the spot, despite James having a handicapped tag.
James served with the Army in Afghanistan and Iraq between 2006 and 2011. He sustained a traumatic brain injury and wears braces on both legs.
