Officer Opens Fire During Encounter With Miami Beach Burglary Suspects

An officer opened fire during an encounter with burglary suspects at a Miami Beach building Monday morning, officials said.

The shooting happened when patrol officers responded to a report of suspicious people in an unoccupied apartment in the 1900 block of Marseille Drive around 8 a.m., Miami Beach Police said.

The officers confronted a woman who was leaving the building and detained her then went inside where they found a male suspect, who struggled with the officers.

One officer fired multiple shots during the encounter but no one was hit, officials said.

Both suspects were taken into custody and charged with burglary to an unoccupied dwelling. The man is also being charged with resisting arrest. Their names haven't been released.
