Authorities in Florida say a police officer has shot an armed man after an undercover drug operation.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Chief Tom Hackney told reporters that undercover detectives made a drug buy at a home Monday evening.
Hackney says as other detectives wearing police gear moved in, 31-year-old Kevin Smith lifted his shirt, revealing a handgun.
Deputies say Smith attempted to pull the gun from his waistband. Hackney says Smith was ordered to stop reaching for the gun but didn't comply. A detective then fired at least two shots at the man.
Smith was taken to a hospital for treatment and is in stable condition. Three others were arrested on drug-related charges.
Hackney says the detective, who's not being named because he works undercover, was put on administrative leave.
