What to Know
- The toll reduction applies to the five MDX-operated expressways.
- The expressways are as follows: the Dolphin, Airport, Don Shula, Snapper Creek and Gratigny.
Starting July 1, Sunpass rates will be reduced on five major expressways, the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority board of directors announced Friday.
The board approved a reduction of the Sunpass and toll-by-plate rates on the following MDX operated expressways: the Dolphin, Airport, Don Shula, Snapper Creek and Gratigny.
Although the rates will be lowered, don't expect to save a ton of cash. The grand total of savings is a maximum of 4 cents if you are a Sunpass user and 8 cents if you drive without a transponder.
Nevertheless, officials with MDX are eager about the change.
"After many months of thoughtful analysis, discussions, and evaluation, I am thrilled to announce that we approved action lowering MDX toll rates by an average of 6 percent, effective July 1, 2018," MDX Chairperson Shelly Smith Fano said in a statement.
"The reduction applies to all our MDX customers, whether the method of collection is Sunpass or Toll-by-Plate."
