‘Oh God, Help Us': 911 Call Released in Girl's Near Drowning in Coral Springs

An 8-year-old girl remained hospitalized in critical condition Monday, a day after she nearly drowned in a pool in Coral Springs.

The incident happened Sunday at a home along Northwest 2nd Manor during a birthday party with children and several adults. Officials said the adults were sitting near the pool watching the kids.

"The girl was on the bottom of the pool doing handstands and playing tricks and playing around with her relatives and she was noticed to be on the bottom longer than she was earlier," Coral Springs Fire Department spokesman Mike Moser said.

A recording of a frantic call to 911 made moments after the girl was found face-down in the pool was also released Monday.

"She's not breathing right now?" the 911 operator asks the girl's aunt in the call.

"We don't know, we don't know. Oh God, help us," the aunt responds.

During another portion of the call, the aunt says the girl is vomiting.

"Ok, I need you guys to put her on her side, if she's vomiting, so she doesn't choke on it," the operator tells her.

Before paramedics got to the scene, family tried to give her CPR. They told the operator she was in the pool for at least a couple minutes.

The girl was taken to the hospital in Coral Springs and later transferred to Broward Health Medical Center. Her family has been at the hospital non-stop but has asked for privacy.
