One Injured in School Bus Accident in Hialeah

The driver of a car involved in a school bus accident is expected to survive after suffering internal trauma and head injuries in the crash.

Hialeah Gardens Police said the accident happened near the city limits of Hialeah Gardens and the city of Hialeah at W 68th Street and 30th Avenue. According to HGPD, the driver of the car took a red light while driving east on W 68th Street and as he crossed the intersection, was hit by the bus on the passenger side of the car.

The car was pushed several feet until it became pinned against a tree.

The Hialeah Fire Department came to the scene and cut the roof off of the car to get the driver out of the damaged vehicle. Hialeah Gardens Police said the driver was taken to Palmetto General Hospital and then airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Police said there were children in the bus when the accident happened, but none were hurt.
