Opa-locka Police Detective Accused of Storming Into Apartment Without Warrant

"Opa-locka police ran in my house without my permission showing his gun in front of my 8 month old son," the Facebook post read.

Police in Opa-locka are investigating after a video on Facebook apparently showed a detective storming into an apartment without a warrant.

The Opa-locka Police Department said in a news release Tuesday that officers responded to a call last Thursday about an armed person in the 13800 block of Northwest 22nd Avenue threatening people and asking for money.

During the search for the suspect, officers entered occupied apartments in the complex, police said. A video posted on Facebook showed a resident accusing an Opa-locka police detective of entering the apartment without a warrant.

"Opa-locka police ran in my house without my permission showing his gun in front of my 8 month old son," the Facebook post read.

The video goes on to show the detective slapping the phone out of the hand of the person who's filming.

"I know my rights, I know I have to allow y'all to come in before you enter my home," said Jeffrey Byron, who filmed the video. "Y'all already entered the wrong person's home, now you want to enter my home, and he said, 'I don't need no warrant, I don't need no warrant,' and all the other officers already knew, so that's why they stayed at the door in the video."

Police never found the initial subject they were looking for and did not identify any officers seen in the video.

"The Opa-locka Police Department cannot comment on the exact facts of an active investigation, but it takes any and all allegations of misconduct very seriously," police said in a news release. "Any allegation of police misconduct will be investigated immediately."

Officials said Wednesday that the officer was relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. The officer's name isn't being released because he works undercover, officials said.
