Opa-locka Police Official Resigns Following DUI Charges

A South Florida police official has resigned after authorities say he was involved in an off-duty crash in his city-issued truck and charged with driving under the influence.

Opa-locka Police Chief Jeffery Key announced the resignation of Maj. Peter Cruz on Friday.

Officials say Cruz was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of driving under the influence and damage to the property of a person.

Opa-locka Assistant City Manager David Chiverton previously told The Miami Herald that Cruz refused to take a sobriety test. He had been on administrative leave since the crash.
