Overturned Truck Spills Soda Cans Across Don Shula Expressway

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews responded to an overturned tractor trailer Friday afternoon, which spilled dozens of soda cans across the roadway.

It happened around 2 p.m. as the truck was traveling southbound on State Road 874 (Don Shula Expressway), just before Killian Drive, and then veered into the northbound lanes.

When crews arrived, they pulled the driver out of the truck and assessed him for any potential medical treatment. He was not transported to the hospital.

MDFR crews secured the area and Hazmat units were called to the scene, due to an active fuel leak. SR-874 northbound was shutdown while crews applied foam to the spill. Drivers were encouraged to use alternate routes.

The Department of Environmental Resources Management and the Florida Highway Patrol were called to assist.

There's no word on what caused the driver to rollover the truck. Stay with NBC 6 for updates on this developing story.
