Palm Beach Sheriff's Deputy Facing Sexual Battery Charges

A Palm Beach County sheriff's deputy appeared in court Thursday following his arrest for an alleged sexual assault.

Jason Nebergall, 38, was arrested Wednesday on two counts of sexual battery. He was ordered held on $100,000 bond at Thursday's hearing, WPTV reported.

Nebergall, a 9-year veteran, was arrested after a woman claimed he showed up at her home, in uniform, and forced himself on her.

The alleged attack happened in July. Nebergall has been placed on paid administrative leave. His attorney said he's a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office released a statement saying it "holds its employees to the highest standards and never forgets about its duty to preserve the public’s trust.

"Unfortunately sometimes an employee makes a bad decision which leads to misconduct. This misconduct was reported, investigated and subsequently determined to be criminal in nature, resulting in the charges. The Sheriff’s Office will remain vigilant to insure that our efforts are professional and meet the high standards that the public has come to expect."
