Palm Beach Triple Murder Suspect: ‘They Kind of Tortured Me'

Yuniel Martinez-De La Cotera, 41, is facing three counts of first-degree murder

A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and her two brothers in West Palm Beach told authorities he shot them in self-defense because "they kind of tortured me," officials said.

Yuniel Martinez-De La Cotera, 41, is facing three counts of first-degree murder following his arrest late Wednesday, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office officials said.

According to an arrest report, Martinez-De La Cotera called 911 to report that he had shot three people at an apartment.

"They kind of tortured me and my kid, in self-defense, I shoot them," he told the 911 operator, according to the report. "They tortured me with money and kicked me out of the house."

When deputies arrived, they found Martinez-De La Cotera outside the apartment. His ex-girlfriend was found fatally shot in the driveway, the report said.

Deputies searched the apartment and found one of the men shot to death in the doorway, and the other fatally shot in a bathroom tub, the report said. The victims' names haven't been released.

The report said there was no evidence to support Martinez-De La Cotera's self-defense claim, since there were no signs of a struggle and the victims didn't appear to have been armed, the report said.

Martinez-De La Cotera was booked into jail, where he remained held without bond Friday, records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
