Authorities say an inmate has died at a Florida Panhandle jail.
The Escambia County Sheriff's Office reported in a news release that medical personnel found 21-year old Samuel Devon Averheart unresponsive in the infirmary unit early Thursday morning. Emergency crews responded and pronounced Averheart dead a short time later.
The Pensacola News Journal reports that medical staff had been checking on Averheart hourly. Information about his medical condition wasn't immediately available.
Jail records show Averheart was arrested last week on a probation violation.
A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
