Panthers Lose to Stars in Shootout

The preseason rolled on for the Panthers on Tuesday with a 2-1 shootout loss

The Florida Panthers fell 2-1 in a shootout to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday at American Airlines Center.

The game was scoreless until the third period when both teams exchanged goals. Florida scored first early in the period and Dallas tied it up in the final minutes of regulation. In overtime, the teams held each other off the board for five minutes which set up the deciding shootout.

This was the second straight game between the clubs and both went past regulation. The final score in both games was 2-1 as well, and the teams appeared evenly matched.

Florida's lone goal of the game came courtesy of Paul Thompson at the 2:29 mark of the third period. The wrist shot was assisted on by Greg McKegg and Mark Pysyk. For Thompson, this score gave him two goals in the preseason. McKegg and Pysyk each have one assist in exhibition play.

James Reimer played the entire contest for Florida and did a solid job. Ultimately Reimer was just outplayed by Dallas' goalie. Florida also had less shots on goal and less opportunities to take and maintain the lead. Reimer stopped 34 of 35 attempts sent his way. Antti Niemi was 27-28 for Dallas in its net, and remained strong during the shootout.

Next up for Florida will be a game at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.
