Parish, Police Seek to Identify Hialeah Church Mail Thief

A man was caught on video breaking open the mailbox of Hialeah's St. John the Apostle Catholic church and stealing envelopes, also making his child participate.

Father Salvador Diaz said the same man has stolen from the church mailbox at least twice – on May 5 and on Sunday, which was Mother's Day.

In both instances, the man pried open the church's mailbox and stole items, which can include envelopes with bills or donations inside.

Diaz believes the suspect chose to strike on the weekends because the church's office is closed.

Diaz nor other parishioners seem to recognize the suspect or his child.

"I believe it's horrible. I mean you're getting a child to commit a crime, to help you to commit a crime," a parishioner named Eric said. "Some of the donations, they go through that mailbox so it's pretty sad, actually, that somebody does that, and I believe whenever anybody sees him, should go to the police or Crime Stoppers or something."

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
