Parrot Worth $2K, Parakeets Stolen From Miami Home

Six birds were stolen from a Miami home overnight, including one worth $2,000, authorities said.

It happened early Wednesday around 4 a.m. at a home near Southwest 44th Court and 5th Terrace.

The owners told NBC 6 they heard their dog barking, then noticed a grey Altima leaving their driveway.

Immediately, they checked on their yellow-naped parrot, "Baby," and discovered the bird was missing. Three other parakeets and two cockatiels were also stolen. The owners then called police.

The owners said Baby has been in their family for 33 years and is worth about $2,000.

"I feel bad. It's like they took my heart from my chest," said Elbian Nasco, bird owner. "I miss her. I really do."

In addition to this family's theft, Miami Police said three birds were stolen from a different home several blocks away near Southwest 43rd and 2nd Street.

Homeowner Peter Davila said the birds, two parakeets and a messenger pigeon, belonged to his mother-in-law. The pigeon found its way home after the theft.
