Pedestrian Crossing Interstate-75 Fatally Struck by Car: FHP

The crash resulted in an 800-foot accident scene.

A pedestrian crossing the center lanes of a highway was struck and killed by a car travelling 70 mph, authorities said.

The accident happened just before 7 p.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of Interstate-75 near Miami Gardens Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the 22-year-old driver of a 2013 Ford Mustang collided with the pedestrian in one of the center lanes. He told authorities there was a moderate traffic flow at the time.

FHP said the victim was run over multiple times by other vehicles and that the sex of the person was indeterminable at the time, according to The Miami Herald. The agency said the unidentified pedestrian committed a violation on a "limited access facility."

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
