Woman Hurt in Hit-and-Run Crash in Pompano Beach: BSO

A woman sustained critical injuries Wednesday morning after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Pompano Beach.

Broward Sheriff's deputies said the woman, identified only as a black female in her 50's, was walking southbound in the 1500 block of Blount Road around 6:20 a.m. when she was struck from behind.

The involved vehicle then fled the scene.

BSO said its detectives were able to follow up on witness information, which led to the location of the suspect vehicle. In addition to the vehicle description, the witness gave investigators information on the direction of travel as the person fled.

Detectives contacted officials at the Florida Turnpike and were able to obtain enough details to track down the vehicle.

The 65-year-old male who owns the Ford F-150 in question is a person of interest, according to BSO.

The investigation continues.

The victim remains in critical condition at Broward Health North. Her name has not been released.
