A veteran of over 25 years on the job with the Pembroke Pines Police Department has been identified as the officer injured in an early morning motorcycle crash this weekend.

Officials say Sergeant John Baker, who oversees the department’s traffic unit and serves as a public information officer, was injured in the crash Saturday morning along the 14800 block of Sheridan Street when his motorcycle collided with a car.

Baker was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he is listed in critical by stable condition. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

"I saw a motorcycle down. You could see the guys trying to pull the guy out from under the car," said Julie Sanchez, who witnessed the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
