Pembroke Pines Man Charged with Impersonating an Officer: Police

A former volunteer for the Pembroke Pines Police Department is no longer permitted to serve in that capacity after being charged with impersonating a police officer.

Pembroke Pines Police said 65-year-old Ian D'arcy had been a volunteer with the department's civilian volunteer parking enforcement team for approximately five years.

On Saturday afternoon, police said D'arcy confronted a 22-year-old male who was parked outside the Silver Lakes Community in the 400 block of Southwest 182nd Way in Pembroke Pines waiting on a friend.

The victim told police D'arcy confronted him, shouting that he needed to move or else he would be written up. D'arcy identified himself as a police officer before re-entering his vehicle and driving off, police said.

According to a police report, the victim followed D'arcy's and took note of his Trinidad & Tobago license plate, tipping the victim off that D'arcy was not in fact a law enforcement officer.

D'arcy exited his vehicle and knocked on the victim's window, demanding to see his license. The victim refused, stating that he knew D'arcy was not a real officer, according to the report.

Police said during the confrontation, D'arcy lifted his shirt and displayed a semi-automatic handgun concealed in his waistband, prompting the victim to drive away and call police.

"He said, 'Look it says Pembroke Pines PD on it,' and then he flashed it and said, 'You want to see my gun too?' and he revealed his firearm," said Alex Santana, victim.

D'arcy was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer and improper exhibition of a firearm. He was also stripped of his volunteer position with PPPD as a result of the incident.

It is not known if D'arcy has hired an attorney.

Police are investigating another case where 39-year-old Juan Torres Cochran also impersonated an officer. He remains in jail.
