A man with a "history of violent behavior" who had escaped from a South Florida mental hospital has been found, authorities said.
Pembroke Pines police were searching for 33-year-old John Ireland, a court-ordered patient of South Florida State Hospital diagnosed with schizophrenia, after he escaped from the facility at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday, Ireland was taken into custody by Broward Sheriff's Office deputies in Oakland Park. Officials said a citizen recognized his image, which includes multiple face tattoos, after seeing him on the news and contacted police.
Police said he had been last seen traveling on foot and wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and black pants after he escaped the facility at 800 East Cypress Drive by climbing over an exterior fence.
Ireland will be charged with escape and was transported to the BSO main jail to be detained.
