Officials: Person Dead After Being Pepper Sprayed by Police

One person is dead after police pepper sprayed them when they were “behaving abnormally.”

Investigators say Fort Lauderdale Police officers were working an event at Carter Park Saturday afternoon, when they were alerted to a person who was "exhibiting abnormal behavior."

Shortly after, police found the person in the middle of traffic just outside the park on West Sunrise Boulevard.

When police tried to baker act the person, the person began resisting arrest and that’s when a brief struggle ensued.

Police then pepper sprayed the person. The victim was taken to Broward General Medical Center where they were later pronounced dead.

The person’s identity has not yet been released, as officials are working to notify the next of kin.

An investigation is now underway.
