After a dialogue with the woman, an officer fired their gun, striking the woman.

The woman did not shoot at the officers.

β€œThe weapon was pointed toward the officer, the officer felt for his safety and fired at the victim," Miami Shores Police Chief Kevin Lystad said.

There have been a number of calls over the years at this particular location for various reasons, Lystad said.

Police have not released the identity of the woman. A family friend said she was in her late 40s and had past issues with her mental health.
