Person Detained in ‘Suspicious' Fire in Miami Gardens

One person was being questioned after a townhouse fire left six people displaced in Miami Gardens Saturday morning, officials said.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the windows of the 2-story townhouse in the 4600 block of Northwest 185TH Terrace when they responded around 10 a.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Ray Jadallah said.

It took firefighters about an hour and a half to get the fire under control. No firefighters were injured.

Two people suffered minor injuries when they jumped from second story windows to escape the fire, Jadallah said. One of the victims was detained for questioning, Jadallah said.

"[The fire] is being considered suspicious until the arson investigators deem it otherwise," Jadallah said.

Three units were badly damaged and a total of six people were displaced.

Miami Gardens Police and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Arson Bureau are investigating the fire.
