A woman who said she was exercising in the area said she saw the victim before they fell into the canal.
"I just happened to see the gentleman walking on the side and he went down, I thought he was going to use the bathroom, so I didn't even bother to look until I kept walking and I saw two other gentlemen stopped and looking in the water," Paula Muirhead said.
When Muirhead stopped to take a closer look, she realized the man she believed she previously saw was inside the canal.

“You could see the water bubbling, bubbling and so that's when I picked up the phone,” she said.
She then immediately called 911.
The victim's condition and his identity weren't released. It remains unclear how he ended up in the canal.
Experts are warning people that canals can be slippery and the depth might be shallower than it looks.
