Person of Interest in Miami Beach Tourist Killing Released After Police Interview

Several persons of interest were taken into custody Tuesday in connection with the killing of a tourist outside a Miami Beach cafe over the weekend, but all have been released following interviews with police.

Miami Beach Police officials said only one of the people was taken to police headquarters for questioning in the shooting death of 30-year-old Lavon Walker. Officials say the investigation remains active into who shot Walker.

Walker, who was visiting South Florida from New York City, was shot and killed outside News Cafe on 8th Street just before 7 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Earlier Tuesday, police said they recovered a Jeep believed to have been involved in the shooting. Police say they believe three men were involved in the killing.

According to social media posts, Walker was a youth minister and founding member of Save Our Streets Brooklyn, an organization that works to end gun violence.
