Miami Fire Officials Rescue Construction Worker Trapped in Dumpster

Fire officials rescued a construction worker who became trapped inside a dumpster while repairing a roof Monday in Coconut Grove.

The Miami Fire Rescue Technical Team responded at around 3 p.m. to the area of Oak Avenue and Virginia Street, according to fire officials.

A 25-year-old construction worker was inside a dumpster performing roof repairs when a trash chute fell, trapping him inside, according to fire officials. The technical team was able to rescue the man with the help of a crane that was at a construction lot nearby.

Chopper 6 was overhead when fire officials worked to pull the man from the chute.

The man was later transported to Ryder Trauma Center with minor injuries.

The cause of the incident was under investigation. Fire officials observed the trash chute was clogged with building material, which may have contributed to the "failing of the parapet wall on top of the roof," according to Miami Fire Rescue.
