Pole Crashes Through Windshield, Narrowly Misses Child: Coral Springs Fire

It was a close call for a driver and her child in Coral Springs Monday when she struck a gate and caused a pole to come through her windshield, missing the child by inches.

The accident happened just after 9 a.m. when the woman lost control of her car and struck a gate in the 8300 block of West Atlantic Avenue, Coral Springs Police said.

The crash sent a pole through the windshield, through the passenger seat headrest and into the child's safety seat in the second row, Coral Springs Fire Department officials said.

"All of a sudden I don't know what happened, O just hear boom and a pole come through," driver Besayda Sosa said.

Officials said the pole was inches from hitting Sosa's daughter, 4-year-old Khloe, in the safety seat. No one was injured but the child was checked out a a local hospital as a precaution.

Sosa said she's not sure what caused the accident. She recalled talking to her daughter and singing in her car on the drive to work before the pole came through the windshield.

"Thank God, that's what I really think, that we are lucky," Sosa said.
