The family of a 75-year-old woman who was killed in a double hit-and-run in Miami is seeking answers.

Police and the family of a Miami woman struck and killed in a hit-and-run earlier in October are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver involved.

Ana Garcia, 75, was struck just before 8 p.m. on October 16th near the intersection of Northwest 1st Avenue and 79th Street by a black or dark colored SUV, according to a press release from the Miami Police Department.

The SUV fled the scene and traveled eastbound. Garcia was later struck by a second vehicle that also fled the scene. She was later pronounced dead.

Police say the first vehicle that struck Garcia will have damage to its front grill and hood.

At a news conference Tuesday, family members expressed disbelief that this could have happened to Garcia, who had 11 grandkids and four great-grandchildren.

“For this to happen to my mother, we are in shock," daughter Chihyang Liu said. "We lost everything. We are just broken right now. We just want peace and we want justice for my mom."

“It’s not humane, it’s not humane. How do you hit somebody and leave, and like a second car? There has to be some humanity, some justice brought to this," daughter-in-law Elizabeth Liriano said. "This is not like a dog, this is a human being. Why would someone do that?"

Police said they're reviewing surveillance footage and trying to gather evidence, but need help from the public.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami Police or Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
