Police Chief's Cruiser Stolen From St. Pete Driveway

Thieves recently stole the Gulfport police chief's cruiser from the driveway of his home in St. Petersburg.

St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz says Chief Robert Vincent parked his 2014 Dodge Charger outside his home on Nov. 22. The next morning it was gone.

The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/1IFZATq ) reports the car was recovered about an hour after the chief reported it missing. A laptop computer was missing.

Police say Vincent's wife's car was also was ransacked. A spare key for the chief's car was in her vehicle and the thief apparently used that to gain access to the cruiser.

St. Petersburg police have noted a recent increase in auto thefts and burglaries, mostly carried out by teens.

Vincent's cruiser was processed for evidence, but no suspects have been identified.
