Police: Couple Arrested for Stealing From Elderly Woman

Two people are behind bars after allegedly exploiting an 87-year-old woman in Pembroke Pines.

According to police, Christopher Kydes befriended the victim and became the Power of Attorney over her.

A year-long investigation revealed that Christopher became a trustee on the victim’s trust, became a joint account owner on the victim’s bank accounts, obtained a deed on the victim’s condo, became a healthcare surrogate and was added to her will as a beneficiary.

The victim’s Century Village condo was then listed for sale by Lauren Kydes. All the contents inside the apartment were discarded without the victim’s knowledge. The victim was moved to an assisted living facility by the Kydes, police said.

Police said that bank records show that Christopher liquidated the victim’s retirement accounts and used her bank account to pay for his and Lauren’s expenses.

Officials said that the victim suffered a monetary loss of over $135,000 due to the suspect’s actions.

Police believe there may be other victims out there and are urging people to come forward.

Both of them are being held on no bond and are being charged with exploitation of the elderly and theft from a person over the age of 65.
