Police Find Body In Fort Lauderdale Canal

The car was found in a canal at 1700 block of SE 15th Street.

Authorities found the body of a 52-year-old man inside sunken white Mercedes Benz  in a Fort Lauderdale canal on Friday.

The man, who was not immediately identified, was last seen on Sunday. That day, authorities got a 911 call from his phone, the details of which weren't released. Two days later, on Tuesday, he was reported missing to Hollywood Police.

During the investigation authorities traced back the 911 the call to the area of the canal, located at 1800 block of SE 15th Street.

Police vessels foudn an object that appeared to be a car near of the public boat ramps, and divers were able to find the vehicle, which was in about 13 feet of water. The car was registered to the missing man. Divers extracted the car with a crane, which had the body of the missing man in it.

No foul play is suspected in the man's disappearance or death, but his identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified.

Fort Lauderdale Police were investigating.
